Our Partnership with Government

Freeport Saldanha is a strategic government initiative and a delivery partner for South Africa’s National Development Plan (NDP) 2030 goals, actively supporting and supported by key programmes such as Operation Phakisa to achieve the creation of a better life for all citizens.

Operation Phakisa

Operation Phakisa is a unique initiative of the South African Government designed to fast track the implementation of solutions for critical issues highlighted in the (NDP) such as poverty, unemployment and inequality.

Freeport Saldanha is linking to Operation Phakisa as an enabling mechanism to provide favourable conditions for facilitating economic development and job creation in South Africa.

Project Khulisa

Project Khulisa is a provincial initiative of the Western Cape Government, focusing on growing the province’s economy through job creation and job opportunities. Project Khulisa acts as a support to Freeport Saldanha’s enterprise development interventions and skills development programmes.

Saldanha Bay Municipality

SBM is the custodian of the majority of bulk utility provision and land-use planning and approvals services. Through their holistic land-use and development planning frameworks, they enable industrialisation and the socio-economic development of the region and its citizens.

Department of Economic Development and Tourism

The Department of Economic Development and Tourism creates opportunities for businesses and citizens to grow the economy and employment. Achieved by embracing five key focus areas: economic strategy and policy; enabling business environment; demand-led private sector driven support; infrastructure-led growth; and decreased skills gap.

Department of Trade, Industry and Competition

The DTIC funds industrial development and economic development programmes within South Africa and is the custodian of SEZ legislation. The dtic also gives support to provincial and local enterprise development initiatives through enabling agencies and trade and investment incentives.

Transnet National Ports Authority

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) and Freeport Saldanha have a shared vision to develop the oil and gas and marine repair and fabrication complex on land within the Port of Saldanha. TNPA manages, controls and administers the Port of Saldanha in a landlord capacity on the TNPA-owned land within Freeport Saldanha. They are key enablers to jointly operate the area as a freeport.

Department of Labour

The Department of Labour has a reliable work-seeker database, ESSA, which it uses across South Africa to provide a public employment service. Providing prospective employers with relevant details of individuals and their qualifications. Freeport Saldanha encourages all SBM job seekers and workforce members to register on the ESSA database.
